All its bags are packed. It has its plane ticket and traveler's insurance. I even called the embassy to let them know it was leaving the comfortable borders of Draftopia. Yes, Huge Blue has gone to press. In just over a month, it will be released into the world to fend for itself. To make friends (readers), navigate the complex social structures of the big city (reviews), and hopefully even learn a trade or profession (sales).
And no matter how scary the world is, Huge Blue will always know that its parents are proud of it. I cannot say enough wonderful words about Ursula Vaira at Leaf Press. She has made this book into something I could only have dreamed of—both inside and out. It will be small format (4.25" x 5"). 104 pages. Scarlet fly sheets. Everything I would have wished for and more. Have a look for yourself——the cover and a summary are now online.
Huge Blue hits shelves on Thursday, Sept. 17th, 2009. The launch will be grand. It will be exciting. It will have lots and lots of gorgeous, palm-sized books. More information about the launch and the following tour to come soon.
But for now, I'm off to the Rocky Mountains for a chat with a glacier. To hold court with ravens. To have a nice glass of wine in the mountain air. Appropriate, when I remember that's where this started, many many drafts ago—mountains, sky, a pen, and a tea-stained notebook.
